Smith launches new book for Chef Neven Maguire
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan T.D. Mr. Brendan Smith was in Blacklion on Monday evening (3 November) to launch a new book by Chef Neven Maguire.
Entitled Neven’s Food in the Sun, the publication is Neven Maguire’s fifth cook book and will be accompanied by a television series which will be screened in early 2009 by RTE.
Speaking at the famous Mac Nean House and Restaurant, the Minister
paid tribute to the Blacklion Chef: “You are known and loved the length and breadth of the country and I can say that everyone without exception, in all strata of the food industry, has the greatest respect and admiration for you. I’m particularly proud as a Cavan man to say that you have put Blacklion on the culinary globe and I hear that a local pastime is spotting the celebrity ….!”, he said.
He also outlined that as Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, his role often involves promoting the food industry at home and abroad. “My job is made all the easier by people like Neven, who is truly a wonderful Ambassador for Irish food at its best”, he stated.
The Minister also referred to the Chef’s particular commitment to promoting the quality of local fresh ingredients, which was giving a great boost to many farmers, growers and those engaged in the agri-food sector.
In conclusion, the Minister said that despite all his success, Neven Maguire has kept his down to earth and good-natured personality, which is the main reason why he is Ireland’s best loved and recognisable celebrity chef. “I hope that Neven’s Food from the Sun will be a roaring success, and if his previous endeavours are anything to go by, I’m sure it will be. The very best of luck to you Neven and Amelda and congratulations on a wonderful book”, he concluded.
