Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has welcomed further funding of €1,400 for Bailieborough Saint Vincent de Paul to improve security arrangements for older people living in their own homes. This follows a recent grant of €940 allocated earlier this month.
The funding, which has been approved by his Government colleague, Mr. John Curran, T.D., Minister for State at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, under the Scheme of Community Support for Older people.
The purpose of this Scheme is to encourage and assist the community’s support for older people by means of a community based grant scheme to improve the security of its older members in their own homes. Funding is available through these organisations for the provision of socially monitored alarms, door and window locks, security lighting and smoke alarms. Interior emergency lighting is also available to qualifying older people living on our off shore islands. Applications for funding can be made throughout the year.
Welcoming the additional funding, Minister Smith said that he was delighted that Bailieborough SVDP had been granted substantial additional funding under the scheme which will allow them to bring a better peace of mind to vulnerable older people in the local community.
