Smith announces further €32.2 million for Cavan and Monaghan under 2008 Single Payment Scheme
Almost €63 million paid in total to farmers in both Counties from Scheme
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan Monaghan, T.D., Brendan Smith, has announced that balancing payments to hundreds of farmers in Counties Cavan and Monaghan under the 2008 Single Payment Scheme will commence on Monday next 1 December.
The Minister explained that for the majority of applicants, these payments represent the balancing 50% due under the Single Payment Scheme and follow on from an advance that was paid from 16 October following a strong case he made to the European Commission.
These balancing payments (€17.2 million to Cavan and €15 million to Monaghan), bring to almost €63 million the total amount allocated between the two counties under the 2008 Scheme (€33.4 million to Cavan and €29.3 million to Monaghan).
Minister Smith pointed out that coupled with the balancing payments under the Single Payment Scheme, farmers in Cavan and Monaghan have also benefited in recent weeks from the Disadvantaged Areas Scheme, payments from which total almost €20 million for the two counties.
