Smith welcomes further security funding for older people


Bailieborough SVDP to benefit once again

Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has welcomed further funding to improve security arrangements for older people living in their own homes.

 

Cootehill Community alert have been allocated €1,475, while Bailieborough Saint Vincent de Paul have received a further allocation of €468, bringing to €2,810 the total amount allocated in three separate grants over the last month.

 

The funding has once again been approved by his Government colleague, Mr. John Curran, T.D., Minister for State at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, under the Scheme of Community Support for Older people.

 

The purpose of this Scheme is to encourage and assist the community’s support for older people by means of a community based grant scheme to improve the security of its older members in their own homes.

 

Minister Smith said that it was very welcome news that groups in County Cavan continue to enjoy such considerable support from this important scheme and he congratulated Cootehill Community Alert and Bailieborough SVDP who had been granted substantial additional funding under the scheme which will allow them to bring a better peace of mind to vulnerable older people in the local community.
