Smith meets National Irish Bank regarding bank closures
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan TD Mr Brendan Smith recently met the Deputy Chief Executive and other Senior Management Personnel from National Irish Bank regarding their proposal to close their branches in Virginia, Shercock, Kingscourt and Bailieboro.
Minister Smith outlined in detail his dissatisfaction with the proposal by National Irish Bank and he stated clearly that he was reflecting the views of the local Communities in all the towns affected. He clearly detailed the negative effects that such closures would have on those towns and their wider catchment areas.
National Irish Bank outlined to him that they would not review their decision to close those Branches, but they conceded that they would continue the 24 hour ATM service in Virginia. They also decided that the Virginia Branch would be merged in to the Cavan Branch rather than the Navan Branch.
Minister Smith also outlined the ongoing case for the provision of a 24 hour ATM Service in Shercock, but no commitment was given. He also requested National Irish Bank to meet a deputation from the County Council and other local groups.
