€ 15.1 Million for Cavan & Monaghan under National Roads Programme 2009 - Smith


Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Senator Diarmuid Wilson have welcomed the allocation of over €15.1 million to Cavan and Monaghan County Council’s in respect of this year’s National Roads Programme.

Major projects in Cavan to be funded include a further € 3.8 Million for the Belturbet By-Pass and € 550,000 for rehabilitation work on the N16 Blacklion Belcoo Bridge. Also receiving funding will be Ballyconnell inner relief road which is getting €1.55 million and €350,000 in respect of improvement works on the Dublin Road, Cavan.

 

The Cavan Fianna Fail representatives also confirmed that major funding is to go towards safety improvements which include €50,000 at Butler’s Bridge; €35,000 at Ballyconnell Town; €15,000 at Ballinagh; €35,000 at Annagh to Bunn road; €35,000 for Belburbet traffic calming and €15,000 for Balilieboro Road Junction, Virginia.

 

Other projects for which Cavan County Council has received funding for 2009 highlighted by Minister Smith and Senator Wilson include: €100,000 for work on the N3 north of Kells; €60,000 for the Cavan by-pass link; €80,000 for pavement works at Corduff to Ballytrust realignment and €40,000 for similar pavement works at Belturbet to Ballyconnell realignment.

 

€559,000 is being allocated to various maintenance works on National Primary roads in the County.

 

Minister Smith and Senator Wilson also welcomed the total allocation of €7.1 million to Monaghan County Council under the National Roads allocation.

“This allocation of over €15.1 million to both counties will enable a substantial National Roadworks Programme to be undertaken this year. Further allocations will be made to Cavan and Monaghan County Councils shortly under the Non-National Roads Programme and also under the Local Improvement Scheme. Despite the very serious pressure on the public finances, the Government is determined to invest in the future and will continue to allocate capital investment to development our national infrastructure” Minister Smith said.
