Stage 2 of Castlerahan Mountnugent Munterconnacht
Mr. Brendan Smith T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food has welcomed the commencement of construction of Stage 2 of the Castlerahan, Mountnugent, Munterconnacht Group Water Scheme.
Minister Smith stated that this Group Scheme is serviced from the Ballyjamesduff Public Regional Water Supply and it serves the South East of the County from the outskirts of Ballyjamesduff to North of Oldcastle and it comprises in the region of 75km of network. He added that this major scheme will serve 872 domestic connections and is being provided in two phases.
The Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil T.D. stated that Phase One has been completed at a cost in excess of €1.6 million and that particular Phase serves about 318 houses. Minister Smith stated that Phase Two which is now underway will serve 554 houses and the cost will be in excess of €4 million.
“The Officials of Cavan County Council have been extremely active in the promotion of new Group Water Schemes throughout the County and in having existing Water Schemes upgraded. Indeed County Cavan has been to the fore in the Rural Water Programme and the Council Officials working with The National Federation of Group Water Schemes and with local committees have done excellent work throughout the County over the past number of years. That important work continues and I compliment the Members of the Castlerahan Mountnugent Munterconnacht Group Water Scheme on their major contribution to this important scheme for a wide area of County Cavan” stated Minister Smith.
Brendan Smith stated that the Rural Water Programme is an essential and important part of the infrastructure in rural Ireland for households, for farms, for business and commerce in general. He added that a substantial programme of upgrading and improvement works on group schemes has been underway in the county as a result of the very substantial funding provided by the Government in recent years.
"This ongoing investment by the Minister for the Environment in the Rural Water Programme is clear evidence of this Government’s commitment to development in rural Ireland and the provision of necessary infrastructure for all households throughout the country" concluded Minister Smith.
