Smith presents National Learning Network Certificates
Cavan/Monaghan T.D. and Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Mr. Brendan Smith has presented certificates to successful graduates of the National learning Network, Monaghan.
Speaking to the 45 graduates and their families at the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan, Minister Smith said he was delighted to present awards to all of the graduates in recognition of their achievements in studying with the National Learning Network over the past year. “I would especially like to welcome the students themselves, their families and friends to this awards presentation”, he said
The National Learning Network provides a valuable service for people with disabilities in Monaghan. It provides training and employment services for people with disabilities, including physical, sensory and intellectual disability.
Funding provided by FÁS and the HSE allows Monaghan NLN to provide four courses. 42 people from County Monaghan are currently receiving training in the centre in The Diamond in Monaghan, while a total of 45 learners from Monaghan are receiving a variety of FETAC and ECDL awards.
The Minister acknowledged the involvement of local employers around north and south Monaghan who provide on-the-job training placements for the learners taking the Employer Based Training course. “Through this training, which takes place on one day every week, the learners gain the practical skills and experience necessary to pursue a career of their choice. In many cases they obtain full time employment on the completion of the course”, he said.
Minister Smith complimented the National Learning Network management, staff and tutors on their continuing efforts to promote the social and economic inclusion of people with disabilities. He also acknowledged the partnership roles of FÁS and the HSE whose funding of these centres has provided today’s students with an opportunity to realise their ambitions and enhance their employment potential.
In conclusion, he offered his congratulations to the graduates. “I hope you will continue the good work you have started, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you every success in the future”, he said
