The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has welcomed a grant of almost €1,900 to Bunnoe Community Alert to improve security arrangements for older people living in their own homes.
The grant which has been approved by his Government colleague, Mr. John Curran, T.D., Minister for State at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, under the Scheme of Community Support for Older people
The purpose of this Scheme is to encourage and assist the community’s support for older people by means of a community based grant scheme to improve the security of its older members in their own homes. Funding is available through these organisations for the provision of socially monitored alarms, door and window locks, security lighting and smoke alarms. Interior emergency lighting is also available to qualifying older people living on our off shore islands. Applications for funding can be made throughout the year.
Welcoming the grant, Minister Smith said that many groups in County Cavan have now benefited from this very important scheme which gives a degree of assurance to older people in there own homes. He commended Bunnoe Community Alert for their outstanding voluntary work in the community, which was a great source of comfort to local people, particularly vulnerable older people.
