Smith turns the sod for new childcare facility at Bailieborough Community Resource House
Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has today (4 July) performed the official sod turning for a new childcare facility at Bailieborough Community Resource House.
When completed, the purpose built facility will allow the current childcare service which has been in existence for ten years, to greatly expand its range of services.
Describing Bailieborough Community Resource House was “a truly exceptional place”, offering not only childcare, but also a range of support services for the local community, Minister Smith said that as a former Minister for Children he had been very pleased to support the project by approving over €1.14 million in Government funding – the maximum available under the National Childcare Investment Programme. He also highlighted the significance of a €50,000 grant which has been allocated by Cavan County Council through PEACE funding.
He outlined how the development of this new facility should be seen very much in the context of significant improvements in providing quality childcare in County Cavan a whole. “Under the two Childcare Programmes, Cavan has benefited from over €16.8 million in approved funding, leading to the provision of over 1,183 new childcare places and supporting over a further 1,186 existing places”, he said.
“There is a palpable air of excitement surrounding this event and I know that the official initiation of this project means an enormous amount to the people of Bailieborough. The new facility when completed, will allow the already well-established childcare service to provide even better options to children and parents alike and will be a tremendous benefit to the local community as a whole”, the Minister concluded.
