Cavan counselling groups to receive funding - Smith
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has welcomed funding of €49,400 which has been approved for seven separate groups involved in counselling services in County Cavan.
The grants, which have been approved by the Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Ms. Mary Hanafin, T.D., are part of the Scheme of Grants for Marriage, Child and Bereavement Counselling 2009. The grants dealing with marriage relate mainly to marriage preparation courses, as well as support for families and couples dealing with marriage breakdown. The bereavement grants fund services that provide counselling to children and adults, while the child counselling grants are targeted at supporting groups involved with counselling for children from violent homes and by youth services.
The following groups will receive funding:
- Cavan Family Resource Centre €35,600
- Rainbows Cavan €600
- Rainbows St. Felim’s Cavan €1,000
- Teach Oscail FRC Project €7,000
- Bailieborough Community Resource House €3,200
- Kingscourt Bereavement Support Group €1,000
- Monaghan Presbytery, Ballieborough €1,000
“The importance of work carried out by these groups in supporting the emotional needs of those who have undergone deep trauma and upset in their lives cannot be overstated. I am a deep admirer of those who run these counselling services, many in a voluntary capacity and I know that the funding which has been approved by my colleague, Minister Mary Hanafin, will be put to good use in helping them to sustain and further develop the vital services they offer to those in our community who need emotional support and counselling”, the Minister said.
