€150 million “smart schools” plan will benefit thousands of children in
Schools in Cavan and Monaghan can look forward to benefiting from a major Government investment in information technology which will see every school in the counties get a teaching laptop, software and digital projector.
Launched by An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, T.D., “Smart Schools” is a major initiative that will see €150 million invested to support the integration of information communications technology (ICT) in teaching and learning in our schools.
“To a large degree the future direction of our economic development will be determined by the way we use new technology. The Government has already identified the need to develop the “smart economy”. In order to make this a reality, we must ensure that our young people are well equipped to use the latest technology as a form of teaching and learning. The “Smart Schools” initiative perfectly compliments the Government’s overall vision and strategy for the future. It is an undeniable fact that the better use of technology in schools is vital to ensuring that students leave with the skills needed to participate fully in today’s modern economy”, Minister Smith said.
