Major Funding boost for 23 Cavan Schools


Smith confirms funding under re-established Summer Works Scheme.

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith, has confirmed that 23 schools (14 primary and 9 secondary) in County Cavan have been approved for funding by the Minister for Education and Science, Mr Batt O’Keeffe TD under the re-established Summer Works Scheme.

 

Minister Smith stated that the Scheme, which is returning after a 12 month deferral period covers school projects such as electrical and mechanical works, roof replacement and repairs, window replacement, toilet upgrades, structural improvements and access works.  He added that the following Schools will benefit:

Curravagh National School

Glangevlin Naational School

St Brigid’s National School, Killoughter, Redhills

Knocktemple National School, Munterconnaught

Drumcrave National School

Aughadreena National School

Corlurgan National School

Drumkilly National School

Kilmore Central National School

Welcoming the funding, Minister Smith said that the return of the Summer Works Scheme is a strong indication of this Government’s commitment to investing in our schools and in the future of our young people. “Despite the very serious pressures the public finances are now under, Fianna Fáil in Government continues to invest in modernising our schools. I am delighted that so many schools in County Cavan are to benefit from this investment, which will not only be welcomed by all associated with them, but is also a very significant jobs boost for the local construction industry”, Minister Smith said.

 

The Minister also confirmed that 28 schools in County Monaghan are to benefit under the Scheme.
