Smith congratulates Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and Comhaltas
Statement by Brendan Smith, T.D.
Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Education and Skills
“I compliment Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Éireann and Jack Keyes, Chairman Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Executive and all involved on the outstanding success of the 60th Fleadh .
Once again Cavan Town hosted the world’s biggest traditional music festival and the very best in Irish culture was showcased over the past 10 days. This year’s celebration was built on the huge success of the 2010 Fleadh.
Our traditional music, song and dance is stronger than ever and the past week’s activities gave a great opportunity to promote and further develop all aspects of our Irish culture.
It was marvellous to listen to the huge number of young musicians displaying their talents in Cavan building on the traditions and knowledge handed down to them by the older generation.
I commend the County Manager and all the members of the Fleadh Executive and all the volunteers who worked so hard to ensure that the Fleadh was once again an outstanding success.
The commitment, hard work and attention to detail of those volunteers played a major part in ensuring that thousands and thousands of people had a fleadh cheoil of excellence.
Once again a sincere congratulations to all involved who worked prior to and during the fleadh, to all who participated in the festivities and provided excellent entertainment”.
