Fears grow over IDA’s Cavan Office
Mr Brendan Smith T.D. has expressed his concern about the future of the Industrial Development Authority Ireland border area headquarters in Cavan Town.
Deputy Smith had raised this particular issue through Parliamentary Question in Dáil Éireann with the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and he added “I am seriously concerned that Minister Bruton did not in effect reply to my Question and that he did not even refer my query to the IDA for clarification.
Some years ago the IDA border Headquarters was established in Cavan Town to give a particular focus to this region with Senior Personnel based there and it is very worrying that confirmation is not forthcoming that the future of this office is secure. I spoke to Minister Richard Bruton and I have asked him to confirm the future of this Headquarters as I believe that it is an important office to focus on the needs of this region. In difficult economic times areas such as Cavan and Monaghan need an additional focus in relation to job creation, not the withdrawal of services. I have also written directly to the Chief Executive of the IDA in relation to this issue.
In recent years there has been an excellent development led by Vincent Reynolds and the County Enterprise Board with the establishment of the Enterprise Board’s Offices and the Cavan Innovation Technology Centre providing a range of courses related to business and economic development and this complex on the Dublin Road also provides accommodation for the IDA Border Area Headquarters and Offices for Enterprise Ireland. This is an important Centre in providing services to help new businesses commence and indeed to help existing businesses maintain and create new jobs. It is absolutely important that a major State Agency like the IDA retain its Border Headquarters in Cavan”, stated Brendan Smith.
