New Business Centre will be a boost to employment in Cavan-SMITH

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has welcomed the announcement that a high-level training centre is to be established in Cavan which will be focused on helping small firms to develop workforce skills and win more public sector contracts

The location of the centre and how it will be administered are being finalised, however, Minister Smith confirmed that it would provide training for border county firms north and south and that it would be submitting an application over the coming weeks to the EU cross border Interreg Programme, which has been centrally involved in supporting the region for many years.

“I compliment Vincent Reynolds and his colleagues in the County Enterprise Board in advancing this application. This development is an exciting opportunity for enterprises and businesses on both sides of the border to upskill their workforces and ensure that they are well positioned to compete for public sector business contracts. The fact that Cavan County Enterprise Board, Cavan Innovation and Technology Centre, Enterprise Ireland, as well as Invest Northern Ireland and InterTrade Ireland are involved in the project, demonstrates its importance.

Cavan and this border region needs such investment which will secure jobs and boost job creation, and I look forward to the early submission of the application for funding to the Interreg Programme and the establishment of the centre”, Minister Smith said.
