Once off fuel allowance payments of €40 to be made in coming weeks-SMITH
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has said that the once off cold weather fuel allowance payment to be made to welfare recipients in the coming weeks is helpful at this time of year, given the current harsh weather.
Between, 22 December and 7 January, a once off payment of €40 will be automatically paid to all households in receipt of the national fuel allowance. The majority of those eligible for the extra payment are state pensioners, widows and people with disabilities.
The payment, which will benefit hundreds of people in Cavan and Monaghan, was announced by his colleague, the Minister for Social Protection, Mr. Eamon O’Cuiv, T.D. as part of the budget and is a recognition that particular targeted additional support is required from the state for some households at this time of the year.
