Smith welcomes delivery of National Broadband Scheme to Cavan

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D. Mr. Brendan Smith has welcomed the completion of the Government’s National Broadband Scheme (NBS).

The NBS, which has been rolled out over the last two years at a cost of €223 million, has brought a broadband service to 1,028 rural areas across the country, including 45 areas in County Cavan. The scheme, which targeted parts of the country where no service was available, was delivered on time and on budget.

Minister Smith said that the successful delivery of the National Broadband Scheme was a real milestone in opening up rural Ireland to the great advantages of high speed internet connection. “I am delighted that with the completion of the NBS, the availability of broadband in County Cavan has been so greatly advanced. This is a big boost to families, educational establishments and of course businesses in the county who will now be able to take advantage of all the benefits broadband connectivity brings”, Minister Smith said.
