Smith welcomes €16,400 funding for Go For Life Grants in Cavan
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/ Monaghan T.D. Mr. Brendan Smith today welcomed funding of over €16,400 for Go For Life Grants for 42 Cavan based groups.
Speaking today Minister Smith said: “I am very pleased to announce this substantial funding today that will allow these 42 well established Cavan organisations to continue their services in the local area. Any initiative that tackles the isolation and stigmatisation of older people and improves their quality of life is worthy of our total support. We now have a better understanding of the changing needs of older people than ever before thanks to the hard work and research of these organisations. We all know the importance of making older people feel part of an active community. The Go For Life programme explores new possibilities, new challenges, new interests and dreams for older people living in the community.”
Minister Smith added: “I know from the regular encounters that I have with older members in my constituency that these services provided are extremely valuable. Interest in age and ageing in Ireland has never been higher, last year alone 24,000 people participated nationwide in physical activity directly funded by this grant scheme. I wish everyone involved continued success into the future.”
