Cavan Institute to benefit from major Government broadband initiative-Smith
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has confirmed that Cavan Institute is to benefit from a €16 million Government initiative to bring high-speed broadband connectivity to educational institutions throughout the county.
According to the Minister, Cavan Institute has been included in the 100mpbs Post Primary Schools Project, which will see an initial investment of €16 million by the Government throughout the country. Broadband is already available in schools through the Schools Broadband Programme, however, this new initiative will allow high-speed connectivity to be installed marking the next phase in the Government’s ambition to develop our schools as world-class centres of e-learning and to educate the next generation of knowledge workers and digital entrepreneurs.
Minister Smith added that the provision of high-speed broadband connectivity was crucial to building a new Knowledge Society which is essential to the future of our economy. “We must start in our schools and I am delighted that the 1,300 full time and 800 part time students of the Cavan Institute will now be able to avail of the exciting new learning opportunities that will come from this increased connectivity. I look forward to further schools in Cavan being included as the initiative is further rolled out”, the Minister said.
