Additional €127,500 allocated to Cavan County Council under Rural Water Programme

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has confirmed that Cavan County Council has been awarded funding of €127,500 for remedial works to be carried out on public water supplies under the Rural Water Programme

The funding, which has been approved by his colleague, the Minister for Housing and Local Services, Mr. Michael Finneran, T.D., will allow for works to be undertaken by the County Council to include the upgrading of disinfection facilities, connections to alternative water sources and provision of chlorine and turbidity monitors, as well as dialout alarms to warn of treatment plant malfunctions.

Welcoming the funding, Minister Smith noted that this allocation was in addition to a grant of almost €2 million already approved for Cavan County Council under the Rural Water Programme 2010. He said that this grant would allow the County Council to carry out important remedial work on the public water supply which was essential for the provision of clean drinking water to the people of Cavan.
