Smith performs official opening of major new childcare facility
Farney Community Crèche, was made possible through a grant of almost €1 million under the National Childcare Investment Programme (NCIP). It currently caters for 54 children, and provides full-time and part-time baby care, toddler care and pre-school care; play-school services and after-schools services. Employing 4 full-time and 7 part-time staff, it has been operating from the new building for a month, having previously provided childcare facilities to young families in the Carrickmacross area from rented premises for the last ten years.
Minister Smith said that as the former Minister for Children, he was delighted to see yet another modern childcare facility operational in County Monaghan which has received significant Government funding. It is clearly money well spent and he noted that County Monaghan alone has received over €27 million in recent years, which has led to the creation of over 1,300 new places. “I would like firstly to pay tribute to the community of Farney and in particular the Community Crèche Committee, the Chairman and Officers for their vision and commitment in planning and developing this excellent facility. This development is another example of what local communities can achieve by working together to address a specific need in the community. All those who have contributed to bringing this project, which is undoubtedly a major addition to the childcare infrastructure of South Monaghan, to fruition, deserve the highest praise”, Minister Smith said.
In conclusion, the Minister complimented project developer Mr. Michael Mulcahy and building contractors Boylan Brothers for their professionalism in delivering such a fine building.
