Major building project at Carrigabruise NS to proceed to planning- Smith
There was yet more good news today for schools in County Cavan, with the announcement by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith, that stage 3 for an extension and refurbishment building project at Carrigabruise NS has been given the go-ahead. When completed, the project will see Carrigabruise upgraded to a six classroom school, with permanent accommodation and other ancillary facilities.
Milltown NS Belturbet, which was recently approved for funding for a new mainstream classroom, has also been approved for additional funding.
Minister Smith stated that this authorisation will allow the Board of Management of Carrigabruise NS and their design team, to apply for Planning Permission, a Fire Safety Certificate and a Disability Access Certificate for the project.
Minister Smith said that this is highly significant development towards the actual delivery of the building project at Carrigabruise NS and he noted that it follows on from the schools inclusion in the Summer Work Scheme 2010. “I’m very pleased for Carrigabruise NS that such a major step towards the construction of the new extension and refurbishment has been taken”.
Minister Smith also confirmed that Milltown NS, Belturbet, which opened a major new extension last year and was recently approved for funding for an additional mainstream classroom, has been approved for further funding to undertake a range of improvements at the school, including upgrade of water supply system; tarmacing of playground, access ramps, wall and safety railing.
The Minister congratulated the Principals, the Chairpersons of the Boards of Management and other members, as well as the Parents’ Committees of both schools which are benefiting from the largest ever school building programme in County Cavan.
