Further good news for Cavan schools
Schools in Kingscourt, Swanlinbar and Lavey to benefit.
There is further good news for schools in County Cavan this week according to Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Brendan Smith.
The Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD has been informed by An Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan, T.D. that she has approved funding to Scoil Mhuire National School, Swanlinbar towards additional accommodation. Minister Smith and Councillor Sean Smith have both praised the work of the Principal as well as the Chairpersons of the Boards of Management and other board members of the school on their successful application. This follows on from substantial improvement works that were carried out at the School during 2009.
Minister Smith was also delighted to receive confirmation from An Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills that she had approved funding for Aughadreena National School, Lavey towards the provision of additional accommodation at the school. In welcoming this announcement Councillors Fergal Curtin and Gerry Murray said that this funding will be a great boost to the school and that it will enhance the facilities for all school going children in this area.
Minister Smith also announced that Cabra Central School, Kingscourt, has been approved funding towards carrying out improvement works to the sewerage system at the school.
“I am delighted that the good work continues in approving funding for schools right across County Cavan and the largest ever school Building Programme is in progress at present. Scoil Mhuire, Swanlinbar, Aughadreena National School and Cabra Central School will all benefit from these welcome decisions made by An Tánaiste in approving substantial funding for these Projects and I compliment the Principals, the Boards of Management and the Parents’ Associations which submitted the successful applications” concluded Minister Smith.
