More schools for Summer Works Scheme-SMITH

36 schools in getting work done under scheme this summer

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/ Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has welcomed the news that a further two schools in County Cavan are to be included in the Summer Works Scheme.

Scoil Bhride, Killeshandra and Drumcrave NS will now join the 34 other schools in the county that will see essential upgrading and repair work carried out over the coming months.

“A record level of funding has been provided under the Summer Works Scheme this year which is allowing for the largest ever number of schools in County Cavan to benefit. Despite the very difficult economic situation, the Government has decided to channel record funding into the scheme. The construction sector is currently offering very competitive pricing which has allowed for a favourable environment for the scheme to operate. As well as allowing schools to upgrade the fabric of their buildings during the summer holidays, the scheme is a very significant stimulus to the local construction sector.

This announcement is yet further evidence of the major investment currently underway in modernising schools right across County Cavan. I would like to offer my congratulations to Scoile Bhride and Drumcrave on the success of their applications”, the Minister said.
