Belturbet Row Boat Club awarded grant under reconciliation fund-SMITH
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has confirmed that Belturbet Row Boat Club has been awarded funding of €2,500 under the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Reconciliation Fund.
The funding was approved by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Micheál Martin, T.D. under the Reconciliation Fund which was set up as a result of the Good Friday Agreement to provide financial assistance to local groups in the border region who are working to enhance reconciliation and community relations.
Minister Smith said that the benefits of the lasting peace that has come from the Good Friday Agreement continues to impact positively on local communities from the different traditions in the border region. “Marvellous progress as been achieved through such initiatives as the various PEACE and Interreg programmes and of course the Reconciliation Fund, which has been in operation since 1999.
I’d like to offer my congratulations to Belturbet Row Boat Club for this award which will allow for this valuable recreational outlet to enhance its activities.”
