Opening of M3 a big boost for Cavan and the North East- Smith

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D. Mr. Brendan Smith has welcomed the opening of the M3 motorway today (4 June).

He said that the new 60km motorway, which was officially opened by his colleague, the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, T.D. and runs from Clonee to the Meath/Cavan border would bring many benefits to County Cavan. “In terms of the local economy in County Cavan, the new motorway will bring reduced transport costs and reduced journey times which will boost competitiveness and efficiencies for local businesses. It will also make our County far more accessible, which will make it more attractive to inward investment and job creation. The new €1 billion project, which is one of the largest road infrastructure projects ever completed in Ireland, also has the potential to boost visitors coming to County Cavan and further stimulate the local economy.

I’d like to congratulate the NRA and all associated the development and construction of this flagship project. I have consistently supported its development over the last few years and look forward to all the benefits that it will bring to County Cavan and the North East”, the Minister said.
