Summer Works Scheme to benefit more schools in Cavan-SMITH

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has confirmed that two further schools in Cavan are to benefit under the Government’s Summer Works Scheme.

He has been informed by his colleague, An Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Ms. Mary Coughlan, T.D. that approval has been given to include St. Felim’s NS, Cavan Town and the Royal School in the Summer Works Scheme 2010.

The funding will allow St. Felim’s to undertake essential structural improvements to the school, while the Royal School will now be in a position to install new toilet facilities.

31 schools in County Cavan have already been included in the Scheme this year which provides funding to undertake essential upgrading and repair work, and in many instances, will involve substantial building and improvement projects at individual schools.

Minister Smith said that once again, Government funding was benefiting schools in County Cavan under what is the most extensive investment programme ever enjoyed by the County. “The Summer Works Scheme is a valuable source of funding to schools to allow them undertake smaller scale, but essential improvements to facilities. As well as benefiting 33 schools in County Cavan this year, it is a excellent boost to the hard pressed construction sector in the County which will be engaged to carry out the work”, he said.

Minister Smith offered his congratulations to the Principals. Teachers, children, Parents ‘Associations, as well as the Chairpersons of the Boards of Management and other board members of both schools for their successful applications.
