Contract to be awarded for new school building at Tullyveela NS-SMITH

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has announced that approval has been given to award the contract for a new school building at Tullyveela NS, Corlough.

“Tullyveela NS is clearly in need of new school buildings, and I am delighted that a new three-classroom school building and general purposes room is set to become a reality with the announcement by An Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills,  Mary Coughlan,T.D. that the contract is now to be awarded to the preferred bidder. This will allow the successful contractor to move on site and begin construction on this major building project for Tullyveela NS.

Despite the difficulties with the public finances, over €580 million is being invested in the school building programme this year. This funding has allowed for the largest ever school building programme in Cavan that is benefiting all parts of the County. I am really delighted to be in a position to announce that a very exciting new chapter in the history of Tullyveela NS is about to begin. This is a major boost for the entire local community, who can now look forward to witnessing the construction of new buildings and facilities of which they will be very proud.

I’d like to offer my warm congratulations to the Principal, teachers, children Parent’s Assocation, as well as the chairman of the Board of Management and the other members, for achieving this great milestone”, Minister Smith said.

Also welcoming the announcement, local Fianna Fáil Councillor, Mr. Sean Smith said that the whole community of Corlough would be enormously relieved at the news that a new school was about to become a reality.
