Cavan heritage sites get €40,000 boost - Smith

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan T.D. Mr. Brendan Smith has welcomed the announcement that three heritage sites in County Cavan are to share in grants of over €40,000.

Owendoon House, Bawnboy; Killougher Parish Church and Tomregan Parish Church, Ballyconnell have been awarded grants under the Civic Structures Conservation Grants Scheme 2010. The scheme ensures the continued preservation of heritage structures, such as libraries, churches, harbours and gate lodges, which are in civic ownership or occupation and open to the public.

Minister Smith said that it was essential that we protect and secure our heritage, particularly our built heritage which is so rich in County Cavan. “Not only will these grants allow local communities to promote and conserve buildings of such rich historical significance, there should also be benefits for the tourism sector”, the Minister said.
