Additional funding approved for Belturbet fire station
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/ Monaghan, T.D. Mr. Brendan Smith has confirmed that additional funding has been approved for Cavan County Council in respect of the new fire station at Belturbet.
Under the 2010 Fire Services Capital Programme, the Minister for Housing and Local Services, Mr. Michael Finneran, T.D. has allocated a package of funding of over €18 million to support the fire and rescue services across the country, and Belturbet is benefiting from this.
Very substantial work has already been carried out in constructing the new station and the new funding will allow for its completion.
Minister Smith said that the provision of modern facilities for our fire fighters to work and train was to the benefit of all in society and he noted that there has been very considerable investment in the services in County Cavan in recent years. “We are fortunate to have such brave and committed men and women working in our fire and rescue services. They play a vital role in savings lives on a daily basis and it is only right that they are adequately supported to carry on this vital work. This funding for the new station in Belturbet is a big boost for the emergency services in County Cavan”, the Minister said.
