The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has announced funding in excess of €16.1 million to farmers in Counties Cavan and Monaghan.

The Minister confirmed that payments will commence this week to almost 8,000 farmers in both Counties under the Disadvantaged Areas Scheme (DAS).

Minister Smith also confirmed that farmers in Cavan and Monaghan would also soon be benefiting from a 70% advance in the Single Farm Payment which will be worth over €800 million nationally and be issuing on 16 October next, a full six weeks earlier than usual.

“I fully recognise that conditions are difficult at the moment for farming families in Cavan and Monaghan and throughout the country. The commencement of payments worth over €16.1 million to local farmers is a welcome and timely boost, as is my decision to bring forward an advance of the Single Farm payment within the coming weeks”, Minister Smith said.
