Major Funding for repairs of Laneways

Local Fianna Fáil T.D. and Minister of State Brendan Smith has welcomed the allocation of €1,648,761 to Cavan County Council for the Local Improvements Scheme for this year.

Minister Smith stated that this funding will enable the Council to carry out a substantial programme of repairs to laneways throughout the county.  He added that further funding will also be allocated under the CLÁR Programme.

The Fianna Fáil T.D. stated that this year’s allocation represents almost 6 times the level of funding that was provided in 1997.  He also welcomed the major allocation of €1,423,587 to Monaghan County Council for the Local Improvements Scheme for 2006 which will enable the largest ever programme of repairs to laneways to be undertaken.

Minister Smith added that almost €32 Million will be invested in upgrading and improving the roads and laneways in County Cavan this year and this will enable a substantial roadworks programme to be undertaken throughout all of the county.
