Increase in Council Funding
Mr. Brendan Smith T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food has been informed by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr. Dick Roche T.D. that he has now allocated €19,526,749 to Cavan County Council under the Local Government Fund. He has also allocated €912,873 to Cavan Town Council
Minister Smith stated that this allocation to the County Council represents an increase of 8.03% on the 2006 allocation. He added that there is a 6.31 % increase in the allocation to the Town Council.
Minister Smith stated that under the funding system for local authorities the proceeds of motor tax and the Exchequer contribution are paid into the Local Government Fund for distribution to local authorities and in effect it is the General Purpose Grant allocation.
“I know that all councils are facing increased costs next year; however I am confident that the increased funding I am providing will enable them to make real improvements in the level of services they provide to their communities while keeping increases in commercial rates and charges to an appropriate minimum” stated Minister Roche in his correspondence to the Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fáil T.D.
