Cavan County Council to get almost €1.9 Million to support Housing Improvements for Older People and People with a Disability

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has confirmed that Cavan County Council has been allocated almost €1.9 Million towards the upgrade of housing for Disabled Persons, Essential Repairs and Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People and People with Disabilities.

Under these Schemes, Cavan County Council has had the funding approved by the Minister for Housing and Local Services, Mr. Michael Finneran, T.D.

The Schemes, which target funding at older people and people with a disability living in a private dwelling, allows local authorities to fund improvements and adaptations which enhance independent living.

Welcoming the funding, Minister Smith said that Cavan County Council would be able to carry on its support to such deserving members of society. “Even the smallest of enhancements and changes to the homes of older people and people with a disability can have a profound impact in making their living conditions more comfortable. Cavan County Council has done great work in targeting these resources and despite the serious pressures our public finances are under, the allocation for this year is an increase in what was made available last year. This is a clear reflection of the Government’s determination to target funding at those who are most in need”, Minister Smith said.

Minister Smith also highlighted that the Fianna Fáil group of Councillors on Cavan County Council have consistently raised with him the importance of the supporting the Schemes.

Minister Smith also confirmed that Monaghan County Council has been awarded €2.09 Million under the Schemes.
