New courses at Cavan Institute launched
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan, T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has performed the official launch of new courses at Cavan Institute.
Complimenting the Institute for being at the forefront in the development and enhancement of educational service provision in County Cavan and the surrounding region, Minister Smith said “as one of the largest places of Further Education in the country, Cavan Institute is deeply rooted in the local community, offering quality assurance courses from FETAC and other awarding bodies, as well as responding to the needs of the learner and business community. The considerable growth of the College in recent years is a positive statement about its past pupils and its current management and staff. In this way, the growth of Cavan Institute is a tribute to yourselves, and is a testament to the confidence of the whole community in the Director and all the staff”.
Minister Smith commented that the new courses would enhance the already excellent reputation of Cavan Institute. He singled out the Professional Cookery course which he said has the potential to upskill participants to meet the catering needs for the massive influx of visitors that will descend on Cavan this August for the Fleadh. “This is, I think, a clear example of Cavan Institute responding to the needs of the local community”, the Minister said.
Minister Smith complimented the commitment and enthusiasm of the VEC and its CEO, Mr. Colm McEvoy and paid a particularly warm tribute to the Director of Cavan Institute, Ms. Anne Marie Lacey, who through her professionalism and leadership, has done so much to make the Institute the special place it is. “To the management, staff and students, I say thank you for your belief and commitment in this Institute, which is a place of education that all of Cavan is justifiably proud of”, the Minister concluded.
