Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister of State has welcomed the announcement by his Government colleague Mr Noel Dempsey, T.D., that a site has now been purchased in Cavan town for the Decentralisation of the Head Quarters of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources.
Minister Smith welcomed the purchase of this major site and also Minister Dempsey’s decision to have an advance party of Department staff transferred to Cavan within the next couple of months. He added that the Office of Public Works are currently at an advanced stage of negotiations regarding temporary accommodation in Cavan.
Minister Smith stated that the finalisation of a site location is a very welcome development in advancing the Government’s major decentralisation programme which will be very beneficial not only to Cavan town but the entire County.
The Cavan – Monaghan Fianna Fáil T.D stated that the relocation of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources to Cavan Town will be of major significance and will establish Cavan as a major administrative centre. He added that the Government is determined that the Decentralisation Programme will be progressed as quickly as possible and indeed many civil servants from the region, who are now based in Dublin and elsewhere, will gladly avail of the opportunity to transfer to Cavan.
Minister Smith along will his Fianna Fáil Oireachtas colleague, Senator Diarmuid Wilson complimented the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Noel Dempsey, the Minister for Finance, Brian Cowen, T.D., the Minister of State Tom Parlon, T.D., and their Department officials for their work in advancing the project to this stage.
Minister Smith stated that these decisions are clear evidence of this Government’s commitment to a successful Decentralisation policy and he is glad that County Cavan will be a major beneficiary.
