Further progress with Decentralisation


Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister of State has welcomed the decision of the Office of Public Works to seek applications from experienced developers/contractors in respect of the provision of new office accommodation and ancillary facilities for the Headquarters of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources at Farnham Road, Cavan

Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister of State has welcomed the decision of the Office of Public Works to seek applications from experienced developers/contractors in respect of the provision of new office accommodation and ancillary facilities for the Headquarters of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources at Farnham Road, Cavan.

 

Minister Smith stated that the site is being provided by the Office of Public Works and the accommodation will be provided on a design/build basis.

 

The Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil T.D. added that the Office of Public Works outlined that they are seeking applications from experienced developers/contractors who wish to be considered for inclusion on a list from which proposals will be invited for the provision of office accommodation and ancillary facilities.

 

Minister Smith stated that this is another significant step in the relocation of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources to Cavan Town and he added that recently an advance party of 20 of the Department’s staff, including Senior Management, have commenced work in temporary offices at Elm House.    He stated that this phased relocation will also facilitate the transfer of a further 15 staff to Cavan and he welcomed the recent announcement by Minister Dempsey that the Department is actively seeking to acquire additional temporary accommodation in Cavan Town.

 

Minister Smith stated that the relocation of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources to Cavan will be of crucial significance and will establish Cavan as a major administrative centre.  He emphasised that this development will be of particular importance to all of County Cavan and he added that many Civil Servants from this region who are now based in Dublin and elsewhere will be very glad to avail of the opportunity to transfer to Cavan.
