Day Services for Cootehill


Mr Brendan Smith T.D., Minister of State and Councillor Michael McCarey have received confirmation from the Health Service Executive that Day Services at Darley Health Centre, Cootehill will commence with effect from Monday 16th October 2006.

Mr Brendan Smith T.D., Minister of State and Councillor Michael McCarey have received confirmation from the Health Service Executive that Day Services at Darley Health Centre, Cootehill will commence with effect from Monday 16th October 2006.

 

The Health Service Executive in their response to Minister Smith’s ongoing representations stated that following a public tendering process the Health Service Executive have entered into a contractual arrangement with Servisource Healthcare for the management and delivery of this service.  They stated that the Health Service Executive and Servisource Healthcare are committed to ensuring the delivery of the highest quality standards of service provision in Darley Health Centre with a constant focus on person centeredness.

 

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael McCarey stated that the new service will provide a range of identified Health and Social Services for up to 25 people daily in the Cootehill catchment area.  He added that the services planned to be delivered include:

 

  • Provision of Meals, hygiene/bathing, Laundry, hairdressing, chiropody, transport
  • Promotion of social contact among the older persons and the prevention of loneliness
  • Provision of day care respite for carers and relatives in caring for older persons during the day
  • Provision of Dementia specific services on a minimum of 1 day per week basis
  • Provision of an active social and recreational programme including health promotion

 

The Health Service Executive stated that these services which will be Nurse managed, will initially operate on a Monday to Friday (5 Day basis) and will be delivered to a high quality, consistent within the core principles of relevant National Health Strategies and HSE policy.

 

Minister Smith stated that the development of Day Care Services is a welcome development for the Cootehill area and he complimented Leo Kinsella, Local Health Manager and Officials of the Health Service Executive in the Cavan/Monaghan area for their commitment to this particular project and he added that he was glad to work along with Senator Diarmuid Wilson and Councillors Michael McCarey, Sean Igoe and Gerry McDonagh and other voluntary groups who had worked in a constructive manner to have this service developed.
