Census
Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister of State has welcomed the publication of the 2006 Census which shows an increase of 13.1% in the population of Co. Cavan since the last Census of 2002.
Minister Smith stated that this percentage increase for Co. Cavan is one of the largest recorded in the country and he stated that this increase follows on from an increase in the population also recorded in the 2002 census. He added that thankfully and fortunately decades and decades of emigration are now a thing of the past.
Minister Smith added that the huge investment in infrastructure such as roads, water, sewerage, housing, educational, health and sporting facilities and the availability of employment opportunities has made Co. Cavan an even more attractive location for people to set up home.
The Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil T.D. stated that as a Public Representative he is conscious that a growing population creates a demand for additional facilities and he will continue his work to ensure that the record levels of Government investment of recent years will continue for the betterment of the country.
