Funding for Central Heatin in Council Dwellings
Mr Brendan Smith T.D. Minister of State has announced that funding of €392,000 has been allocated to Cavan County Council and €168,000 to Cavan Town Council under the Central Heating in Local Authority Rented Dwellings Programme in 2006.

Minister Smith stated that the objective of the Central Heating Programme is to assist housing authorities in providing central heating facilities in their rented dwellings that currently lack such facilities.
The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr Dick Roche T.D. in his correspondence to Minister Smith, stated that the implementation of the Programme is the responsibility of the housing authority concerned, including the planning and execution of works. He added that under the Programme a grant of €5,600 or up to 80% of the cost, whichever is the lesser, is available in respect of the provision of central heating facilities and related energy improvement and smoke detection measures in eligible dwellings. He added that the balance of the cost will be met by the Local Authority.
