Mr Brendan Smith T.D. has welcomed the approval by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr Dick Roche T.D. of a tender for the pipework contract for the Kingscourt Regional Water Supply Scheme.

Councillor Kelly stated that the approval for this contract now clears the way for Cavan County Council to commence work as soon as possible.
Minister Roche, in his correspondence to Minister Smith and Councillor Kelly, stated that the improvements to Kingscourt’s water supply will ensure that anticipated water demand can be met for the next twenty years. He added that the contract now approved involves the replacement of all existing water mains within the town and environs together with ancillary works and road reinstatement. Minister Roche added that Cavan County Council is also taking the opportunity to extend the existing sewer network in the area as part of this contract and the works will have very positive benefits for the community and will provide a solid platform for further economic development.
Minister Smith stated that a €5.6 million euro Sewerage Scheme for Kingscourt is also being advanced and both projects are being funded under the Government’s Water and Sewerage Services Investment Programme 2005/2007.
The Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil T.D. added that County Cavan has been a major beneficiary of this Government’s decision to invest very heavily in the provision of Water and Sewerage Schemes and all of County Cavan has benefited.
Minister Smith stated that alongside the Rural Water Scheme an unprecedented level of investment is taking place in upgrading the existing Water and Sewerage Infrastructure and in many instances providing new Schemes.
