Additional funding for West Cavan Group Water Scheme
Mr Brendan Smith T.D. Minister of State has announced that top-up funding of €248,525.00 under the CLÁR Programme has now been approved for the Water Conservation Project part of the major West Cavan Group Water Scheme which is well advanced in construction.
Minister Smith has welcomed this approval by his Government colleague, Mr Éamon Ó Cuív T.D. Minister for Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs. He added that this funding will facilitate 1,501 connections both domestic and non-domestic covering an area from Milltown to Dowra in County Cavan and he stated that the overall investment in this Group Water Scheme is in the region of €12 million.
Minister Smith stated that the provision of new high-tech water treatment facilities by way of bundled Design, Build and Operate (DBO) procurement, involving a number of schemes under a single contract, is the agreed policy to improve the quality of water supply to members of rural group water schemes. He added that funding is provided by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government for essential water conservation measures on group water schemes e.g. provision of isolation valves, stopcocks, associated chambers and meters, which are receiving water treatment and disinfection facilities by way of these bundled DBO contracts.
Minister Smith stated that there is a massive investment in Group Water Schemes throughout County Cavan and he complimented the Council Officials and the various Committees on their work in advancing this very important Rural Water Investment Programme.
