Topping Out Ceremony for Cavan College of Further Studies

The Minister, who served as Chairman of the College’s Board of Management, stated that this project marks a very significant investment in the Further Education Sector in Co. Cavan and that he was very pleased to be associated with the development.

 

The Minister paid particular tribute to the former Minister for Education and Science, Mr. Noel Dempsey, T.D., for his assistance in having the project included in the 2004 Building Programme and he added that the present Minister, Ms. Mary Hanafin, T.D., is very supportive of this Sector.  He also singled out for praise the Chairman of the V.E.C. – Clifford Kelly, the C.E.O. – John McKay, Colm McEvoy, Principal of Cavan College of Further Studies and staff of the V.E.C. and the College Staff.

 

Minister Smith stated that the College will have the most modern accommodation and he stated that to date nearly €7 Million has been committed to this particular project.  He added that the procurement of furniture and equipment will add significantly to the overall investment by the Government.

 

Commenting on the new facility, Minister Smith said that he was particularly interested in the options that the new facility offers, not only to Cavan College, but also to Co. Cavan as a whole.  He acknowledged the key role played by Cavan College, in the development of the region, through the provision of highly skilled graduates in a variety of areas.  The growth of the College is a clear indication that it is successfully responding to the needs of the community and delivering a quality product, the Fianna Fáil Deputy said.

 

Minister Smith complimented P. Elliott & Co. the Main Contractor, the Architects and Design Team, the Sub-Contractors and all the staff of all the companies involved in the work to date.
