Turning of Sod for new facilities for Mullahoran GFC
Mr. Brendan Smith T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food turned the first sod for the major new development that is now being undertaken by Mullahoran G.F.C.
“I want to thank Mullahoran G.F.C. for the kind invitation to turn the first sod for this new development which will be of major importance for the Club and indeed the wider area for many years to come. Mullahoran G.F.C. are leading the way in providing these new state of the art in-door facilities and in effect this Club are preparing to meet the recreational and sporting needs of the area for many years to come.
Thankfully in rural Ireland today we have an increasing population and more and more young people are staying in their own home areas and there is an increasing and welcome demand for new sporting facilities.
Mullahoran is synonymous with the GAA and it has a record of success second to none. For many decades it has been one of the leading senior clubs in the county. Many of the household names of gaelic football associated with County Cavan have come from this parish.
Along with Councillor Danny Brady I was glad to be able to support the grant application submitted by the Club and I am delighted that €120,000 has been approved in 2005 under the Gov ernment’s Sports Capital Programme. I commend the Officers of the Club and all the members and supporters who have supported this project to date and they are to be commended on their efforts and commitment to provide this modern new facility”.
