Sewerage Schemes for Crosskeys, Mountnugent and Stradone
Mr. Brendan Smith T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food has announced that the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government Mr. Dick Roche T.D. has now given approval to Cavan County Council to invite tenders for new wastewater treatment plants for Crosskeys, Mountugent and Stradone.
The Environment Minister in reply to representations made by Minister Smith on behalf of Councillors Gerry Murray and Danny Brady stated that the three wastewater treatment plants will be constructed under a single Design, Build & Operate contract. He added that this approach will result in many benefits, including much quicker delivery and greater economies of scale than planning and building each scheme separately and new sewer networks are to be provided in the three villages under a separate contract.
“The Crosskeys, Mountnugent and Stradone Sewerage Schemes are being funded under my Department’s Water Services Investment Programme 2004-2006 at an estimated cost of €2.2 million. The new infrastructure will help to prevent pollution of local watercourses and will allow further development to take place without adversely affecting environmental standards.
The way is now clear for Cavan County Council to advertise for tenders for the wastewater treatment plants. In view of the importance of the project, my Department will be advising the Council to proceed immediately with the procurement process” stated Minister Roche in his correspondence to Brendan Smith.
Minister Smith stated that this approval by the Minister is very welcome news for the three villages and that this is further evidence of this Government’s commitment to the provision of adequate infrastructure in the towns and villages.
