€13 Million for Cavan's National Road Programme
Mr Brendan Smith T.D. Minister of State has welcomed the allocation of €12.8 million to Cavan County Council towards the National Roads Programme for 2005.
Minister Smith told Northern Sound that €7.5 million has been allocated in respect of the second stage of the Cavan By-Pass which is already under construction. He added that €750,000 has been allocated in respect of the planning and design of Belturbet By-Pass and this will enable the Council to complete the necessary preparatory to enable the project to proceed to Tender stage.
The Minister welcomed the specific allocation of €900,000 towards improvement works on the N3 from the County Boundary with Meath to Maghera. He added that the specific grant for €400,000 has also been allocated towards improvement works on the streets in Belturbet.
Minister Smith stated that a specific grant of €500,000 has been allocated in respect of improvement works from the Longford County Boundary to Dundevan on the N55 and also €800,000 towards improvement works on the N55 from Garrymore to Corduff.
The Fianna Fáil Oireachtas Member stated that €600,000 has also been allocated to the Council in respect of maintenance work on the N3 and also €456,000 towards maintenance work on the National Secondary Roads.
He added that this funding will enable a substantial National Road Works Programme to be undertaken this year.
