More towns approved for Broadband

Ballyjamesduff, Kilnaleck, Butlersbridge, Ballyhaise,

Belturbet and Ballyconnell to benefit

Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister of State has welcomed the announcement by Minister Noel Dempsey, Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources to approve a number of towns in Co. Cavan under his Department’s 2nd phase of the Group Broadband Scheme. The towns included in this phase are Ballyjamesduff, Kilnaleck, Butlersbridge, Ballyhaise, Belturbet and Ballyconnell.

Minister Smith stated that this additional broadband roll-out is of particular significance to these towns and he added that this investment will place these towns and their catchment areas at the cutting edge in terms of internet access.  He added that this broadband infrastructure is now a vital tool for industry and invaluable for educational institutes, health and research bodies.

“A modern, fast, low-cost, always-on communications and broadband network is essential for Cavan’s economic future and this investment is evidence that the county is well and truly part of the information-age economy.  It sends a clear signal to any investor that these towns are at the cutting edge in terms of Internet access and willingness to embrace the information economy.  Effectively, what is being provided is low cost, high speed, 24/7 access to the Internet.

For too long, use of the internet and accessing websites has been frustratingly slow and expensive, whether it has been for business, pleasure or education.  This will now be a thing of the past”, stated Minister Smith.
