More funding for Council
Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food has welcomed the recent announcement by Mr Dick Roche, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government that he has now allocated € 1,433,000 to Cavan County Council under the European Programme for Peace and Reconciliation (Peace II extension) 2005-2006.
Minister Smith stated that these grants will be administered by the County Council-led Task Force, which is responsible for the delivery of three measures under the Peace II Programme. He added that the measures receiving funding from these grants will focus on support for projects which benefit both urban and rural local communities and enhance the attractiveness of the border areas for visitors and investment.
Minister Smith stated that this funding will enable the Council to undertake work and provide new facilities in both urban and rural areas and can fund local projects and community initiatives.
The Fianna Fáil Deputy added that the Council has over the past few years provided many new worthwhile facilities with funding under this particular Scheme and these projects are beneficial to many communities throughout the county.
