Increase in Council Funding


Mr. Brendan Smith T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food has been informed by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr. Dick Roche T.D. that he has now allocated €18,075,814 to Cavan County Council under the Local Government Fund.  He has also allocated €868,661 to Cavan Town Council.

Mr. Brendan Smith T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food has been informed by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr. Dick Roche T.D. that he has now allocated €18,075,814 to Cavan County Council under the Local Government Fund.  He has also allocated €868,661 to Cavan Town Council.

 

Minister Smith stated that this allocation to the County Council represents an increase of 7.39% on the 2005 allocation and it also represents an increase well in excess of 140% on the 1997 allocation.  He added that there is a 5.11% increase in the allocation to the Town Council.

 

Minister Smith stated that under the funding system for local authorities the proceeds of motor tax and the Exchequer contribution are paid into the Local Government Fund for distribution to local authorities and in effect it is the General Purpose Grant allocation.
